Everything You Need to Know about SSL

Who participates in Southern Sports Leagues Sports events?

Active professionals who are looking to meet new people and have a great time while playing their favorite sports. Some leagues require the minimum age to be 21 or older and have medical insurance.  We do not provide medical insurance.

 

What is the deadline to register for leagues?

Generally the deadline to register for our leagues is at least one week before the start of the league unless otherwise noted. Some leagues will sell out before the league deadline and some will not. All league registration is based on a first come, first served (paid) basis. We do not offer preferential treatment. Please note that most leagues have a period of early bird discounts and late fees.

 

How do I register?

There are a few different ways to register. The quickest and easiest way to register is through our secure website. Just find the sport/night you want to play and click “Signup”. From there you can either start your own “Team” or register as an “Individual” (free agent) and we’ll find a team for you! If you are a company team and need to be invoiced as one payment, your captain can start the “Team” registration process and then e-mail us at info@southernsportsleagues.com to receive that invoice. Please do not register and pay at the field.

 

TEAM

If you register for a team as a Captain, you must have enough players to fill your team.  Occasionally we can help you out and place "Indy" players on your team, however that is not always the case.  Please do not register a team until you have enough players committed.

 

What if I don’t have enough people for a whole team?
Most of our leagues accept registrations for “Individuals” (free agents). This is a fun way to make new friends in the Big Easy! After registering as an “Individual” we’ll try to place you on a team. Once placed, you’ll be put in contact with the team’s captain and other players. If we cannot find a team for you, we are happy to offer placement in another league, season, or even a refund.

 

What is an individual sign-up?

We now call them Indy sign-ups not Free agents. Basically it means that you don’t have a team to play with, but still want to play a sport. You sign up by yourself and we do our best to place you on what we call "Indy teams" with other people that have signed up singly or in small groups or an established team that needs an extra player or two!  

 

SPONSORED/COMPANY TEAMS: All sponsored teams may have a maximum roster limit of 14 players. Any additional players added to the roster may be added at an additional fee. No exceptions!

• All sponsored teams must have their players registered and on the roster before the first week of the season. No additions will be allowed after week 1.

 

 

After I sign up as an "indy" what happens next?

You'll be contacted shortly via email before the league starts with details about your team.  If you can not be placed on a team we will refund you in full at this point or offer a credit. To better increase your chances of being placed, sign up sooner rather than later.

 

How long in the season?

Most of our leagues consist of a six or seven games with a playoff game for top teams.

 

How long do we play for?
Most of our leagues run for 50 mins-one hour. Overhand Softball games are 70 mins.  Your game times will rotate each week throughout the season.

 

What happens in the case of inclement weather?

Weather Policy: We can not control the weather! We HATE canceling games!!! Southern Sports Leagues reserves the right to shorten a season due to excessive rain-outs. We will try to make up each game to the best of our ability. We will try to extend the season to make-up games or will reschedule games on another day.

 

Thirty-minute rule  Once lightning has been recognized, we must wait at least 30 minutes after the last flash of lightning is witnessed or thunder is heard.  Any subsequent lightning or thunder after the beginning of the 30-minute count should reset the clock and another count should begin.  Everyone must seek shelter in their cars.

 

What happens if games need to be rescheduled?
Southern Sports Leagues reserves the right to reschedule games to alternative locations on different days or possibly extend the season to accommodate rescheduled games.  If we experience as excessive amount of cancellations we will need to cut the season short.

 

What if I don’t register and pay by the deadline?

If payment is not received on time, your spot on the team may be given up. Late registration is allowed, but an additional fee will be added to the original registration fee. You will then be added to a team as soon as possible. Rosters will be finalized within the first two weeks of the league’s season.

 

No refunds!  We will issue a credit which will be valid for 1 year from date.

Registration fee is non-transferable. You can not transfer your league fee to another member unless approved by Southern Sports Leagues.
There is no refund for unused services.  We reserve the right to delay the start of a league.  Delayed season starts do not warrent a refund.

INJURY: All injuries must be reported after the incident to the Referee and/or Field Manager. You will receive a pro-rated credit for the remaining games you miss.  Credits will not be issued if you do not report your injury.  No exceptions!

 

SUB POLICY- Non-roster subs are only allowed when your team is short a player that is on the roster

 

• Teams using subs cannot exceed the minimum number of players required to field a full team. Ex. Softball may have as many subs that gets a team to 10 players. A female should sub for a female and a male should sub for a male.

• Players may not sub more than 2 games (depends on league) per season. 

• If a Sub wishes to continue playing with a team after 2 games, they must pay the entire league fee before the next game or they will not be allowed to participate in any games in that league in which they are a sub.
• Subs are prohibited from playoff games. 

• Only teams that have registered and paid for 12 players may have Subs

 

 

If a league is canceled, then a full refund will be given, but we will do our very best to place you into a different league. If league play starts though, no refunds will be given.

 

Southern Sports Leagues reserves the right to exclude intoxicated or disorderly persons from any portion of an activity without refund of money. Unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.

 

You are responsible to judge your own ability to participate based on your own physical capabilities and endurance, the weather, conditions, and anything else pertaining to the activity. Southern Sports Leagues is not responsible for any injury, loss or damage to person or property, resulting from participation in, parking at, or traveling to and from activities.

 

All members must have their own medical insurance.

 

Forfeit Policy:

If your team plans to forfeit a game AND not show up at the field, you MUST contact Southern Sports Leagues and/or the other team captain in advance. Captains must send an email to info@southernsportsleagues 24 hours prior to game time.

 

If your team forfeits twice your team will not be eligible for the playoffs and will not be allowed to register a team for the next season.

 

In certain leagues and circumstances, teams may pick up other players from within the league to avoid forfeit and/or to be able to play at full strength. You must alert Southern Sports Leagues via email before the game if you plan on having a sub participate

 

Our team has an injured player, can we replace him/her?
Injured players may be permanently replaced at no charge prior to the 5th week of the season under the following regulations:

  • The captain and/or injured player must notify the league immediately.
  • The replacement player must be added to the roster by SSL and accept the online waiver before being eligible to play.
  • The replacement player is a PERMANENT replacement. The injured player may not return until the following season.
  • Any payment issues and money exchange must be determined between the injured player and the replacement player.
  • The injured player must give their SSL team shirt to the replacement player to wear during games. If the shirt doesn't fit, the replacement player may purchase a new shirt (if available) for $10.
